The 2023er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese was made from 15% botrytized fruit picked at 89° Oechsle on over 90-year-old vines and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (80 g/l). It offers a very pure nose made of grapefruit, coconut, mint, floral elements, smoke, and whipped cream. The wine is beautifully racy and subtly creamy on the palate, where the fresh fruits mingle with the mineral elements. A touch of creaminess adds an “Auslese touch” to the long finish. This subtly exotic and creamy expression of Spätlese is hugely impressive.
