Dear Burgundy lovers,
Domaine de Courcel is located in Pommard in Burgundy, this 10.5 hectares estate has been in the hands of the founding family for over four centuries. Yves Confuron has Régisseur at the de Courcel estate since 1996, working along side Gilles de Courcel who manages the domaine.
The estate farms Pinot Noir exclusively using certified organic practices. While its flagship wine, Grand Clos des Épenots, accounts for approximately half of the estate's annual production of 30,000 bottles, Domaine de Courcel is equally recognized for its limited-production Premier Cru bottlings, including Les Rugiens and Les Fremiers.

Liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, plum, kirsch and cassis display a broad array of floral top notes. The impressively scaled
large-bodied flavors are incredibly concentrated as the dry extract imparts a sappy texture and almost renders the very firm tannic
spine invisible on the dusty, austere and compact finale. This is also old school and ultra-serious so I repeat the advice for the
Fremiers, e.g., don’t buy this without the intent to cellar it over the longer-term.

Once again very ripe aromas of cassis, poached (but not cooked) dark berries, earth and a
whiff of menthol precede the firmer but slightly less concentrated larger-scaled flavors that flash evident power on the balanced,
austere and compact finale that delivers sneaky good length. This is a big and compact wine that is frank in its delivery. As such,
it’s robust, even burly, Fremiers that is pointless to buy unless you expressly intend to cellar it appropriately.

This is also quite ripe yet the altitude of Rugiens isin evidence with its cooler and airier aromas of red berry liqueur, kirsch and a plenitude of floral elements. There is again excellentvolume and mid-palate density to the notably more mineral-driven and tautly muscular flavors that also coat the palate with dryextract on the impressively long, compact and very firm finish where touches of warmth and mocha appear.

About DOMAINE DE COURCEL
Domaine de Courcel has been in the hands of the de Courcel family since the 16th century, its 9 hectares situated entirely within the commune of Pommard and comprising some of its finest premier cru sites. For four centuries, the estate has focused on producing wines typical of the Pommard appellation, wines of supreme structure and great finesse. In 1996, Gilles de Courcel decided to appoint Yves Confuron from Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot in Vosne Romanée as winemaker, not in any way to alter the estate’s style, but rather to enhance the individual character of each of the vineyards' terroirs. To this end, Yves has introduced many new if traditional practices, such as ploughing the soils, strict selection in the vineyard, a longer vinification process and longer élevage, lasting from 18 to 24 months, depending on the wine. They are also often the last to pick in the village. Gilles’ son Edouard and niece Constance de Leusse are the latest generation to join the family business. In 2025 Yves Confuron decided he needed to focus his time on his own family business and ended his time with the de Courcel family. Later in 2025 Pierre Clair (formerly Chef de Culture at Domaine de Montille and Domaine Marquis D’Angerville) joined as fulltime Estate Manager to continue the legacy of this incredible estate.
